Why DriveScored — in three lines

  • 01The methodology is explained. Every product's 0–100 DriveScore breaks down into category-specific dimensions you can read at /methodology. No black-box “editor's choice.”
  • 02Nothing is pay-to-rank. Affiliate commission never changes a DriveScore or the order of our recommendations. When we document a rejected product, we publish the reason; we never invent a rejection record after the fact. The score isn't for sale.
  • 03No fake testing theater. We don't claim “40 hours in our labs.” We aggregate manufacturer specs, verified owner sentiment, and enthusiast-community consensus (r/Dashcam, r/AutoDetailing, r/MechanicAdvice) through a published methodology — and we say so plainly.

What we cover

20 categories across five systems of the car: power & charging (jump starters, tire inflators, battery maintainers, EV home chargers), in-cab tech (wireless CarPlay adapters, dash cams, OBD2 scanners, phone mounts), interior protection (floor mats, seat covers, organizers, sun shades), wash & detail (vacuums, soaps, interior cleaners, microfiber, ceramic coatings), and maintenance & safety (wiper blades, car covers, roadside kits). 100 reviewed products at launch, every listing verified live before it ships.

We launched in July 2026 with the explicit goal of being the most useful car-gear comparison site on the web — not the longest, not the most SEO-stuffed. Useful means: pick a category, see a sortable comparison table with a public score on every product, check the fitment note, and decide. In under five minutes.

Editorial accountability without invented personas

Institutional byline

Articles are published by the DriveScored Editorial Team. We do not use fabricated expert biographies or imply credentials that readers cannot verify. The accountable publisher is Hilly Shore Inc., identified in our legal pages.

Corrections and updates

Product availability, pricing, specifications, and owner feedback change. We date material updates, correct supported errors, and recalculate rankings when the underlying evidence changes rather than silently preserving an outdated winner.

Evidence labels

“Tested” is reserved for hands-on work. Otherwise our conclusions are explicitly research-based and draw from named manufacturer, safety, retailer, owner-review, and enthusiast-community sources appropriate to the category.

Publishing restraint

We do not generate a page for every keyword permutation. New pages must answer a distinct buying question with original guidance, product tradeoffs, citations, and a maintained reason to exist.

What we believe

Independent & Unsponsored

No brand pays us to rank their products higher. The recommendations are the same recommendations we'd give a friend. Affiliate commissions fund the site but never bend the picks.

Transparent Scoring

Every product carries a public DriveScore (0-100) with category-specific sub-rubrics. The formula is documented at /methodology. No black-box editor's choice.

Honest about what we know

When a product is in our hands, we say so. When it isn't, we say that too — and cite the public sources we used (manufacturer specs, aggregated owner reviews, named subreddits like r/Dashcam and r/AutoDetailing). No fabricated bylines, no “we tested 47 hours” theater. Same policy for fitment: if a part is sold in vehicle-specific variants, we tell you to double-check yours instead of pretending certainty.

Built for Decisions

Comparison tables on every category page. Sub-score breakdowns on every product page. Built for buyers who want to decide in 30 seconds, not 30 minutes.

How we make money

Affiliate commissions. When you click a "Buy on Amazon" link from a product page and complete a purchase, we receive a small percentage of the sale at no extra cost to you. That's the entire business model — no subscriptions, no sponsored posts, no paid placements.

Critically: we do not accept paid placements. No brand has paid us to rank their product higher. Multiple products on this site are explicitly disclosed as "skip this" with the higher-priced alternative recommended - that's only possible because the score isn't for sale.

The Federal Trade Commission requires affiliate disclosure, which we satisfy with the standard disclaimer on every product page. The relationship is transparent. The recommendations remain ours.
