Jump starter amp sizing guide
Peak-amp specs are confusing and inconsistent between brands. Pick your largest vehicle's engine and your climate for a sensible target range — and the caveats that matter more than the headline number.
Look for a peak rating around
1000–1500A
Peak amps is a marketing headline, not a guarantee — brands measure it differently. Treat it as rough guidance, size to your largest vehicle, and weight safety features (reverse-polarity protection, a real clamp) as heavily as the amp number.
A single portable unit that covers your biggest engine will comfortably start everything smaller. When in doubt, one tier up costs little and buys reliability on the cold morning you actually need it.
